Learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

LO1 Provide an insight into legal and regulatory framework in travel and tourism sector.

• Demonstrate the legal and regulatory framework of tourism sector.
• Discuss the laws of surface,sea and air transport in relation to carriage of passengers.

LO2 You are required to provide an understanding of laws in relation to health and safety and security in travel and tourism sector.

• How does the principles of health safety and security legislations have impact on travel and tourism sector.
• Evaluate the law relating to equality.

LO3 How consumer protection legislation relates to travel and tourism sector.

• What contract rules are followed by travel and tourism customers.

UNIT CONTENT :

LO1  Provide an insight into legal and regulatory framework in travel and tourism sector.

Legal framework-Rules and regulations applicable

Regulatory framework- for example: Health and safety commission(HSC), Civil Aviation Authority(CAA),International Air Transport Association(IATA),Strategic Rail Authority(SRA),Health and Safety Executive(HSE)

Transport law- for Surface and Sea Transport the law applicable is carriage of passengers by road act 1974

LO2 You are required to provide an understanding of laws in relation to health and safety and security in travel and tourism sector.  

Health,safety and security-presently relevant domestic and European laws example- Health and Safety at Work act 1974

Equality Law- this includes Employment protection Act 1978, Employment protection act 2002 and Human rights Act 1998, Sex Discrimination Act 1975 etc.

Impact of legislation and regulations- what role does health and safety laws play in fair trading and data protection and explain employment law at both national and local level.

LO3 How consumer protection legislation relates to travel and tourism sector.

Contract law-rules relating to for example contracts for supply of goods, contracts for offering of services,valid contracts and law of agency

Consumer protection- regulations relating to trades and description act 1968,package travel and package tour regulations 1992,duty of care 

Accommodation services- offerings like hotels/inn, rights of refusal and principles of food hygiene regulations. 

LO4 What role does business ethics play in travel and tourism industry  

Business ethics- employment ethics,ethics of advertising,green issues of advertising,benefits of responsibility and business,employment and finance and investment ethics 

Ethical theory-marketing tourism responsibly, supporting local economies and political regimes, using resources economically  etc. reconciling business life with moral values for example  whistle blowing etc . Reason for ethics and overlap between laws and ethics.

How to be Ethical- the role of corporate social responsibility,responding to ethics and environmental concerns,social auditing and developing code of practice.
